Metric Measurements

Metrics is fairly simple once you get th hang of it. All metric conversions move in factors of 10 and have a designated prefix attached to each one.

The base measurements have no prefixes and begin at 1, with the exception of a select few.

Common metric units:
    Length - Meter (m)
    Mass - Gram (g)
    Volume - Liter (L)
    Time - Second (s)
    Energy - Joule (J)
    Force - Newton (N)
    Temperature - Celsius (°C) - Kelvin (K)
    Power - Watt (W)
    Electric Current - Ampere (A)
Amount of Substance - Mole (mol)

Prefixes and unit measurements:
    giga (G) - 1,000,000,000 (109)
    mega (M) - 1,000,000 (106)
    kilo (k) - 1,000 (103)
    hecto (h) - 100 (102)
    deca (da) - 10 (101)
    no prefix - 1 (100)
    deci (d) - 0.1 (10-1)
    centi (c) - 0.01 (10-2)
    milli (m) - 0.001 (10-3)
    micro (μ) - 0.000001 (10-6)
    nano (n) - 0.000000001 (10-9)

So what does this all mean. Well lets use a common unit as a simple example: you are told that you have 1000 grams of sugar and you have to find the mass in the next unit of measure. So you look back at the chart and find the 1 kilo = 1000 base. All you need to do now is move the decimal point the appropriate number of spaces in the correct direction and add the prefix to the base. Giving you 1 kilogram of sugar.

visual:
    You have 1000 g
    1000 base = 1 kilo
    You have 1 kg

Note: Sorry, I'm really tired right now. I'll fix typos and incorrect information another time. Until then be cautious about the chart, because I'm too tired to check and see if I typed something incorrectly or not.
