Gold & Fury's History
Gold and Fury had humble beginnings. It began as nothing more then one Role-play thread on the Playstation Underground (PSU). This thread, called Jak and Daxter Role-Playing Thread, began with a simple setting of the Jak 2 era, in which the original RPers created their characters and made the plot move and twist with every post. In the original thread there was no plot set up, the RPers just set the time frame and reacted to the actions of the other characters. This thread quickly became popular, adding 30+ pages of RP every day. However a short time after its creation the Moderators began to feel that the thread was getting out of control with spam and inappropriate comments. They attempted to limit the number of posts allowed for each RPer, so that no one would be willing to spend a post to spam. But this move turned out to be a very unpopular amongst the RPers, so they began looking and talking about creating their own site. Mean while the thread on the PSU creeped along at a very sluggish pace for a couple of days, mostly filled with flaming about how much the limit was not appreciated. Due to the flaming and spam, the Mods finally locked the RP thread with very little hope of another ever taking it's place. By the time the thread was locked two of the RPers, Pinkecofreak an Wire X, had agreed on a location and a name for the site. The site was named Gold and Fury after the corrupted forms of their characters, Syia and Raven; who became Fury Syia and Gold Raven when corrupted with eco. The new site, hosted by Eamped moved along rather slowly in it's first few months, the membership consisting almost entirely of the original group of RPers in the PSU thread. Having a very rocky start, with much trial and error G&F finally began to make some progress a few months after it's creation, but there remained some internal problems. These problems would give to some minor flares here and there, but nothing that wasn't controllable, however there came a time when built up aggression finally gave way. Starting with a simple comment or action one member decided to do some major flaming, this flaming received retaliation, which then brought more members into the flaming. This known as a flamewar, quickly got out of hand growing into an all out assault that nearly tore G&F apart. After several hours of flaming things began to finally calm down, giving the staff some time to try to fix the damage with the best badges they could manage to think of. These bandages, as all badges do, only solved the problem short term. A few weeks after the first flamewar broke out, another began. This new flamewar hit G&F even harder then the first, though the staff was more prepared for the second one, it still toke it's tole on the attendance of G&F. It amazes and baffles me to this day that no one on either side of the flamewar was banned or punished for their actions during that time, but I was not an Admin then so I did not have much say in the matter. After the second flamewar things finally settled back down, the problem members avoided each other in an attempt to avoid another conflict, until these members who were in the middle of it all left G&F for different reasons. Over the next couple months G.&F finally found it's rooting once again, the membership began to pick up, bringing in a hand full of newcomers. However despite G&F's progress we encountered a new problem, one that none of the staff or membership had expected. The problem came in the form of the host it's self. Eamped was having constant server problems, causing G&F to go down for hours at a time, even lasting a whole day a couple of times. This problem continued for quite some time, it sitting as a constant discussion amongst the staff as to what to do about the problem. As the problem worsened the staff finally decided to let the membership chose what action to take. Posting a poll asking if G&F should be moved of not the membership chose almost unanimously to move the site to a new host. So the staff got to work, quickly finding Proboards, we built our domain and worked on the site for a few weeks, making sure that everything was built and in order before unveiling the new location of G&F to the membership. Over a weekend, during one of the most active times of the week on G&F, the staff released the URL to the Proboards location, which quickly became the new home of G&F as the membership moved in with awe and wonder at the new domain. So here we stand. G&F on Proboards, a well rooted and well put together Jak & Daxter role-play and fan-fiction site.
